Our take
Pros
- Protection against currency fluctuations: It offers you the opportunity to hold your savings in hard currency (US Dollars or Euros) while earning a fixed return in the same currency, thereby protecting you against the risk of local currency depreciation.
- Flexible term selection: The certificate is available with various terms to suit your future plans: 3 years, 5 years, or 7 years.
- Low minimum purchase requirement: Purchases of the certificate start at 500 USD or EUR (and multiples thereof)—a reasonable minimum compared to other dollar-denominated certificates that require substantial amounts to begin investing.
- Credit facilities: You can borrow against the certificate from any Al Ahli Bank branch, in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Stable Return: The return is fixed for the duration of the certificate and is calculated starting from the business day following the date of purchase.
Cons
- Relatively low yield for the dollar: Yield rates on the dollar-denominated "Golden Certificate" range from 4.75% (for 3 years) to 4.85% (for 5 years) and 4.90% (for 7 years).
- The certificate cannot be redeemed prior to the expiration of six months from the date of purchase; in the event of early redemption before the term ends, a redemption schedule applies that deducts a portion of the accrued profits.
